Client Case Study: Police Scotland Grampian CCTV Control Room
Grampian Police were a territorial police force based in Aberdeenshire. It has since been amalgamated into Police Scotland.
Why Did They Approach Scottish Communications Group?
We were approached by Grampian Police to help them upgrade their CCTV control room. Their existing system was antiquated and based on analog SVHS equipment. This was becoming unreliable, and costly to administer and operate. They wanted to replace the system with an “evidential quality” system that would work with their existing analog equipment and newer IP CCTV cameras.
We conducted a full site survey and a client demonstration of our proposed technical solution. Key challenges that we overcame with our solution were:
- Evidence & Efficiency – We developed a system that would provide them with evidential quality image and allow them to search through one month of images within minutes.
- Full Redundancy – We were tasked to provide a fully redundant system that would continue to record in real-time should any of the components fail. We were able to supply this within their budget.
- Flexibility – We specified a hybrid solution capable of addressing their immediate issues while giving them the long term peace of mind that the equipment was compatible with the latest technology.
Our solution fitted the needs of the client perfectly. We were able to offer them a new COLDSTORE recording solution that uses approximately 10% of the electricity that traditional system use which saved them money and space. The new system is far more reliable and easy to manage, with minimal maintenance and operation being required.
