Main features
Connexions 2, our popular UHF POCSAG Radio Paging System, sets the standard for industry to follow, especially where the system is required to be totally self contained and exceptionally flexible. Apart from meeting stringent European Approvals requirements, Connexions 2 also carries accredited status from both Underwriters Laboratories in the United States and TUV GS in Europe.
These prestigious approvals demonstrate the high build standard of the system and provide peace of mind that the equipment will operate safely within its given environment. The system is modular in design, allowing you to buy the basic unit and add to it as your company’s needs change, so the initial outlay is kept to a minimum.
Connexions 2 can be connected to almost any business telephone system*. In addition to this you can connect your paging system directly to a personal computer with the aid of Page Link ProTM, our professional Windows TM based software package. This allows paging in both numeric and alphanumeric formats, with other enhanced features such as the ability to store unlimited pre-programmed messages, coupled with automatic diary scheduling functions to remind personnel about meetings, appointments and duties. These can be programmed hours, days, weeks, even months in advance. You can even use the software to send text messages to mobile phones! The Enterprise Client version of the software enables you to install the program across an entire network, providing paging system access to anyone equipped with a terminal.
The Connexions 2 transmitter is designed to work at UHF frequencies which give an incredibly high degree of reliability in terms of the signalling success within the commercial environment, whilst using very small and unobtrusive aerials. The Connexions 2 system uses the same international standard digital signalling system (POCSAG) deployed by most wide area paging companies. This is accepted to be amongst the most sophisticated and reliable in the world.
With the Connexions 2 system, connectivity is a matter of choice. Flexibility was a key word in its design, enabling it not only to be accessed via telephone and computer systems but also to be connected to a wide range of other host hardware to meet demanding industrial and commercial applications.
Connexions 2 comes as standard with a single RS232 data input port and 10 dry contacts, which enables the system to be hard wired to anything from an alarm control panel to a front door bell or telephone to alert prescribed users in the event that required criteria occur. The system can also support single or multiple telephone interfaces, together with up to three concurrently active RS232 data ports. All Connexions 2 systems come configured with default settings and are able to support up to 4 digit pager numbers as standard (9999), so expansion is already built in.
Pagers - General
A wide range of flexible pagers exist that can be tailored to meet your exact requirements. Pagers can feature a full alphanumeric display, top or side read numeric display or literally be as simple as a beep or vibrate only pager. Many of the pagers that we now supply are available with advanced software control, enabling them to be preset in a particular configuration which the user cannot change, e.g. to prevent accidental switch-off, or to lock the pager in vibrate mode, so that a deaf person can always detect a call. Please see specific pager brochures on the wide range of pagers available to suit these systems.
Telephone connection
To use the system simply pick up the nearest telephone, key in the paging system extension number, wait for the prompt, enter the pager number that you wish to call and enter the number that you wish to be displayed on the pager, listen for the sign off prompt and hang up.
Monitoring receivers
A logging receiver can also be applied to any system, which will automatically monitor activity from any number of transmitters and output the data on a serial port. See separate receiver brochures for further details.
Alarm and switch connection
The Scope Connexions 2 transmitter has 10 dry contact (volt free) inputs that can be activated upon request (both activation and the required messages should be specified at time of ordering). There is also an optional junction box (part code DC) available for ease of connection to the terminals. For applications where a greater number of hard wired inputs are required, optional *128 way programmable dry contact or voltage serial interfaces are available that allow for bespoke programming via PC software supplied. This allows anything from doorbells to machinery, security systems to telephone bells, to automatically call a pager or a group of pagers with a specific message. For more detailed information please contact our Technical Sales Representatives. *Note that these units will occupy a serial port on the transmitter.
Automated Plant and Machinery – Universal Interfacing
Connexions 2 has been designed to be connected to a wide variety of devices to enable automatic messages to be sent to individuals or groups of people when their attention is required. This often requires the Connexions 2 system to be interfaced to other manufacturer’s host equipment, which in most cases was never intended to control a radio paging system. To overcome this difficulty, Scope has designed universal interfaces to facilitate data capture from a wide range of other manufacturer’s equipment. This enables interconnection with Nursecall systems, Security, Fire and building management systems, as well as process control apparatus (e.g. temperature and flow rate monitoring). Data can be processed in a wide variety of formats, and our technical department will be more than happy to advise on specific applications.
Performance
A standard quarter wave aerial (approx. 6 inches tall) will provide more than adequate performance for most industrial sites and buildings well in excess of 100,000 sq ft, or a free radiated range of up to a mile. Performance can be further improved by using a centre fed half wave dipole aerial mounted either inside, or outside the building at a more elevated height.
